In early July, we had the pleasure of completing a re-decking project in Medina, Ohio, that completely revitalized a deteriorating outdoor space. The existing decking, railing, and lower deck were in poor condition, presenting both safety hazards and aesthetic concerns. The clients initially considered sanding and re-staining the deck, but they quickly realized that this would not address the safety issue with the widely spaced balusters, which did not meet current building code standards. Additionally, the ongoing maintenance, including yearly sanding and staining, along with the associated costs, made a full replacement a more appealing option.
Fortunately, while the decking and railing required a complete overhaul, the existing frame of the upper deck was still structurally sound. This allowed us to focus on the installation of new Trex composite decking—a low-maintenance, durable option that would eliminate the need for annual upkeep. During our initial consultation, we worked closely with the clients to select the perfect color and style from a range of composite deck ideas, ensuring their new outdoor space would be both beautiful and functional.
We also discussed the design details, including a built-in bench, low-voltage landscape lighting, and modern railings. To help the clients visualize their new deck, we created a scaled 3D rendering that incorporated all the design elements. Once they approved the design, our team took care of everything—from securing building permits and HOA approvals to zoning compliance—allowing the homeowners to relax while we brought their vision to life.
During the composite deck installation, we made sure to reinforce the deck's structure by adding additional floor joists. Unlike the old wood decking, which could span wider gaps, Trex composite decking requires joists to be spaced 16 inches apart or less. This attention to detail is part of our commitment to delivering a deck that not only looks great but also stands the test of time.
The completed deck offers both safety and comfort, addressing the clients' initial concerns and exceeding their expectations. The new railing was carefully constructed to meet current building codes, ensuring that the homeowners can now enjoy peace of mind as their grandchildren safely play on the deck.
With the installation of Trex composite decking, the clients no longer have to worry about splinters, making it a perfect outdoor surface for barefoot fun and relaxation. Additionally, the transformed deck has boosted the owners confidence in their outdoor space, where they are eager to host neighborhood cocktail parties and celebrate their daughter's wedding with a memorable after-party.
What was once an old, worn-out wood deck is now a stunning and inviting area that the homeowners are proud to showcase to their guests.
We take great pride in our craftsmanship and attention to detail, and it’s always rewarding to hear from satisfied clients. Here’s what the homeowners had to say about their experience:
"Luke and his 'band of brothers' did an AWESOME job on our deck. Very professional. Great Craftsmanship. Plus, absolutely no cigarette butts laying around when they leave like most contractors. In fact, even the music they listen to during the day is inspiring."
