For this project, we were tasked with a complete tear-out and reconstruction of a backyard deck in Strongsville. The homeowners had recently moved into their new home and “inherited” the deck, which had become unsafe due to rot and deterioration.
After seeing one of our yard signs at a neighboring home, they reached out for a consultation. Upon inspection, we determined that the existing deck frame was beyond repair, and a full replacement was the safest option.
One of the most important decisions for this project was choosing between wood or composite decking. Given the homeowners’ desire for low maintenance, they opted for Trex composite decking in the rustic brown Saddle color, which provides a beautiful, long-lasting and budget-friendly alternative to wood.
However, the deck's proximity to the ground presented a challenge for the team. We were faced with solving how to span 16 feet from the house while using a narrower joist stock for the framing. To ensure the project met safety codes and had the proper engineering design, we collaborated with the Strongsville building officials to design a framing plan that addressed these challenges.
Additionally, after the initial deck tear-out, we discovered that the power line to the house was directly beneath the old structure. Since the utility marking service had missed this during their first visit, we had to call them back to re-mark the line. They responded within 24 hours, allowing us to proceed safely with the project.
With the necessary planning in place, we moved ahead quickly and efficiently, completing the full tear-out and rebuild in just four days. The new deck not only provides a safe space for the homeowners’ children to play and enjoy, but also enhances the backyard’s appearance with its beautiful composite finish.
"My wife and I could not be happier with the job Luke and his team (brothers) did on our back deck. They are super professional and easy to work with. They did a complete tear-out and re-build in less than four days. I would truly recommend them to anyone if anyone is thinking of replacing or putting a deck at their house. 10 out of 10 for sure!"
